A great little movie. Slow and intense, it tells a very good story. Compelling as well as intriguing, the movie real characters. Normal human beings that for better or for worse are people dealing with their life in a desperate way of making things better. It is heart braking as well as full of hope even is the latter is harder to find at times. I had a great time watching this movie but I also didn't expect it to be Gone Girl - which is directed by David Fincher. Gilles Paquet-Brenner gives us a good mystery with a secret that doesn't reveal itself until the very end. Great cast, good script but this movie is more challenging than Fincher's. Gave it your absolute attention, and you will be rewarded.

Taking a journey into the depths of depravity, she wakes each morning to the disfiguring scars left by the previous night's horror and searches for the answer to a missing memory: 'Could I have killed my family... According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, the film has made approximately Rs 5-5.25 crore nett on its first day. The film did approximately 40% better business on Saturday than Friday and managed to collect around Rs 7.5 crore at the box-office. Drishyam released in over 2200 screens.

The report on Boxofficeindia.com further stated that Drishyam had registered good business in the Mumbai circuit. The film's total collection after eight days stands at Rs 32.25 crore nett.

Drishyam continued to be stable at the box-office even in its second week and managed to earn Rs 12 crore if we club the second weekend and Monday numbers. The day-wise breakup is as follows: Friday - Rs 2.25 crore, Saturday - Rs 3.75 crore, Sunday - Rs 4.5 crore, Monday - Rs 1.5 crore.
PLOT SUMMARY

The film tells the story of a Maharashtrian family who live in Goa and whose lives turn upside down when their older daughter Anju has a skirmish with a college boy Sameer at a nature camp Anju's father(Vijay Salgoankar)tries hard to protect his family. A 4th grade dropout & an orphan, Vijay has worked his way towards success with his sheer hard-work & street smartness in order to provide for his family who mean the world to him. A man of few means and needs, Vijay believes life is to be lived simplistically. His wife Nandini (Shriya), while she loves him devoutly, wants Vijay's thrifty and miserly behavior to end and wants the world for her family. The couple have two daughters, Anju (Ishita) and Anu (Mrinal), a student. If there's one thing that Vijay cannot live without, it is his passion for watching films. Such is his 'filmi' obsession that he doesn't mind staying up all night at his office binging on TV movies.

During a nature camp, Anju gets photographed in the bathroom by a hidden cell phone. The culprit, Sameer (Rishab Chaddha) is the son of Meera Deshmukh, Inspector General of Police. When Sam goes to their home to blackmail them there is an accident. Nandidi tells Vijay about the incident and he devises a way to save his family from the law. He removes the broken cell phone . Some how Sub-Inspector Gaitonde (Kamlesh Sawant), who has a grudge against Vijay suspects that there is something wrong with the way the Salganokars are behaving.

Vijay takes his family out on a weekend trip to Panjim to attend Swami Chinmayanand's Satsangh Session, watch a movie and eat at a restaurant.

Meanwhile, Meera, realising that her son has gone missing starts an investigation. After a preliminary investigation, she calls Vijay and his family for questioning. Vijay had predicted that this would happen and taught his family how to speak to the Police during questioning.. When questioned individually, they replied the same thing and they had also shown the bill of the restaurant, the movie ticket and the bus journeys' tickets as proof of their being away on the dates when Sameer went missing.

Meera even questions the owners of the establishments they have been to and their statements also prove the Salgaonkar's alibi. Meera realises that on the day of the incident, Vijay had taken the tickets and the bill, made acquaintance with the owners and had gone for the trip with his family the next day, thus proving his alibi and making the owners unwittingly tell the lie.

Meera arrests the Salgaonkars and Gaitonde uses brute force to beat the truth out of them. Eventually, Anu gives in and reveals the place where the body is buried. After digging the compost pit, they find the carcass of a calf, indicating that Vijay had moved a body. Anu reports to the media and complains against Gaitonde. The Sub-Inspector is suspended and later Meera resigns from her post.

At the end, Meera and her husband Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) meet Vijay to ask forgiveness for their rude and violent behavior. But Vijay indirectly tells them that he had got rid of 'the uninvited guest'.

Back in current day, Vijay signs a register, as required by the cops, at the newly constructed local police station. As he leaves, a flashback shows him leaving the incomplete police station with a shovel in hand.

When Anju is trying to stop Sameer or Sam as he is called from attacking her mother Nandini she hits him with a blunt object; he falls down. Nandini panicks when she realises that he has been struck dead. Quickly Nandini and Anju put his bag in a gunny back and bury him in their own garden.

All through the investigations no one from the Salgaonkar family talks of Sam being dead. They play along with the police who only think that the boy has gone missing but do not assume that he is dead.

In the climax, when Vijay who is let free by the Police because they are unable to find a body he smiles. He is questioned by another Police guy who has taken over the investigation and vows to prove Vijay guilty. He asks him about the whereabouts of the body. Vijay smiles because he has shifted the body from the compost pit behind his own garden and buried it right below the foundation laid for the new police station in their neighbourhood. it is the classic case of searching for a clue the world over but never dreaming of looking for it in the backyard.
